Design & structure
A clean, modern, scholarly layout suited to your field and seniority, responsive on phone and desktop.
Academic Websites Β· Founding places open
JS Insights designs and deploys independent websites, with a main focus on academics β researchers, lecturers, professors and small research groups. Your profile, research, publications and contact details are presented clearly and kept under your control. Polished personal websites and small business websites can also be discussed by enquiry where the project fits our clean, content-led style. We are in a founding / pilot phase, so a limited number of early places are available at founding prices.
Email a short outline of your website, audience, preferred pages and deadline. We will confirm scope and the appropriate package in writing. Domain, hosting, email, paid tools and maintenance are not included unless separately agreed.

You are paying for design judgement, careful editing, correct publication formatting, accuracy checks, and a single point of responsibility from first draft to launch. Our main focus is academic websites, but if you need a polished personal, professional or small business website at a similar level of structure and finish to mscole.com, you are also welcome to get in touch.

Example project
JS Insights designed and built mscole.com as an independent academic website, presenting profile information, research, publications and contact routes in a clear, responsive format. The project illustrates the kind of scholarly web presence we can create for academics who want a professional site they can own and control.
Example sites are independent projects and do not imply endorsement by any university, employer or institution.

How it works
After launch
After launch, you may host the site yourself, or ask JS Insights to support hosting and updates. Managed options are designed for clients who want publications, talks, project links and profile details kept current without handling the website themselves.
Ad hoc updates
For clients who do not choose a managed hosting or maintenance plan, or for one-off changes outside a plan. Pay only when a defined update is requested, such as occasional text, link, CV or publication changes, small additions or agreed adjustments to an existing JS Insights-built site. Larger redesign or new-page work is quoted before work begins.
Managed monthly updates
Includes standard .com domain renewal where available, static hosting/DNS administration and one manual update cycle per month. You may email routine updates or nominate a small agreed list of public sources, such as a university profile, ORCID, Google Scholar, ResearchGate or a professional news/social feed. JS Insights confirms by email after updates. Subject to fair-use scope.
Managed weekly updates
Includes standard .com domain renewal where available, static hosting/DNS administration and a manual update cycle up to once per week where practical. Suitable for clients whose publications, talks, project links or profile details change more often. Updates can be triggered by email or by an agreed public-source watch list; JS Insights confirms by email after updates. Subject to fair-use scope.
Self-hosting remains available: we can hand over the complete site package for you to publish and update yourself. Managed prices assume a standard .com domain renewal where available; more expensive domain extensions, paid email, premium services or unusual registrar charges are quoted separately before renewal or setup.
Scope
You are responsible for the accuracy of, and the rights to, the content you supply. We shape and edit what you provide and do not invent academic claims. Final terms are confirmed in a written proposal / contract.
FAQ
For many academics, the challenge is not a lack of achievement, but that publications, projects, media work, teaching, impact activity and institutional profiles are often scattered across different platforms. A well-structured academic website brings these materials together into a clear, coherent public profile that is easy for collaborators, students, journalists, conference organisers and funders to understand. JS Insights helps academics organise, edit, design, build and deploy professional websites that present existing work accurately and confidently.
An academic website gives your work a clearer and more coherent public structure. Instead of relying on separate university pages, publication databases, PDF CVs and professional profiles, you can bring the most important information together in one place: your role, research focus, selected publications, projects, teaching, impact work, media activity and contact routes. This helps visitors understand not only what you have done, but how your work fits together. JS Insights helps shape these materials into a professional website that presents your existing academic profile clearly, accurately and in a way that is easy to navigate.
A university profile provides important institutional context, but it is often limited by fixed templates, internal systems and restricted editing options. A personal academic website can complement it by giving you more control over structure, emphasis, wording, publication presentation and long-term ownership. It can link back to your university profile, ORCID, Google Scholar, lab page and other official sources, while offering a fuller picture of your research identity. JS Insights designs academic websites that work alongside institutional profiles, helping your public presence feel more complete, consistent and accessible without implying university endorsement.
Academic work is often more complex than a simple publication list. A strong website can distinguish between selected publications, full publication records, funded projects, policy contributions, media work, public engagement, reports, datasets, collaborations and research themes. The goal is to help readers understand the significance and structure of your work without oversimplifying it. JS Insights can help organise these materials into clear sections, format references consistently, check links, and present outputs in a way that is professional, readable and appropriate to your field. This is especially useful when your work spans several topics, institutions or audiences.
Different visitors come to an academic website with different needs. A potential collaborator may want to understand your current research direction; a student may look for supervision areas; a journalist may need a concise expert profile; a conference organiser may want biography, topics and contact details. A well-designed website helps these audiences find the right information quickly, without having to interpret a long CV or search across multiple platforms. JS Insights can structure your website around these real visitor journeys, so your research profile is easier to understand while still remaining accurate, measured and academically appropriate.
Senior academics, lecturers and research groups often need more than a basic biography and publication list. Their websites may need to highlight research leadership, major themes, selected publications, funded projects, supervision areas, editorial roles, invited talks, public engagement, policy work, media contributions or team members. The priority is not to include everything, but to create a clear hierarchy that reflects the most important aspects of the profile. JS Insights can help decide what should be prominent, what should sit on supporting pages, and how to present a substantial academic record without making the site feel crowded or difficult to read.
Early-career researchers may not yet have a long publication list, but they can still present a clear and credible academic profile. A focused website can highlight research interests, doctoral or postdoctoral work, selected outputs, teaching experience, conference presentations, methods, datasets, public engagement or future research directions. The key is to present the available material with clarity and proportion, without exaggerating claims or imitating the structure of a much more senior profile. JS Insights can help early-career academics create a polished website that feels professional, accurate and appropriate to their current stage.
An academic website should be reviewed whenever there are changes to your role, affiliation, publications, projects, supervision areas, contact details or major external links. For many academics, a light review every few months or twice a year is enough. For publication-heavy profiles, active research groups or academics with frequent media or policy work, updates may be needed more often. The aim is to keep the site accurate and current without creating unnecessary administrative work. JS Insights can provide a clear handover after launch, and maintenance options may be offered separately for clients who prefer ongoing support.
JS Insights' main focus is academic websites for researchers, lecturers, professors, PhD candidates and small research groups. However, personal websites, consultant websites and small business websites can also be considered by enquiry if the scope is a good fit. This may include professional profile sites, portfolio-style websites, simple service pages, expert consultancy profiles or content-led business websites that need a clean, credible and well-structured presentation. More complex projects, such as large e-commerce systems or highly customised platforms, may fall outside the usual scope. Enquiries are reviewed individually to confirm suitability before work begins.
